Murder case assumes political overtones

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Nov. 25. The murder that was committed recently in the house of a local TDP leader here is turning curious besides assuming political overtones. What was initially thought as a murder due to vengeance appears to be transforming into a case of sexual jealousy and ending up now as a murder with enough political overtones. Interestingly, as the TDP leader, Anna Ramachandra Yadav, Chairperson of the Agricultural Market Committee, and his younger brother, Ramakrishna, who is named co-accused in the case belong to a backward class, the issue has eventually assumed even caste overtones much to the discomfiture of the district TDP.

The case took a curious turn yesterday with the accused, Parasuram, a watchman in Ramachandraiah's house backtracking before the III ADMM, Tirupati, G. Satyanarayana, on the confession statement he had earlier given before the police and mediapersons that it was he who killed Venkateswara Rao at the instigation of Ramakrishna allegedly due to sexual jealousy. He even told the magistrate that he was coerced by the police to implicate Ramakrishna in the murder.

The issue has assumed political overtones with the Congress, led by the PCC secretary, B. Karunakar Reddy, and others alleging that there was more to the murder than what meet the eye.

He saw an alleged link between the murder and the Krishna Yadav's fake stamp paper scandal.

On the other hand, Ramachandraiah on Tuesday almost raised a banner of revolt against the TDP for not coming to his rescue in his present travails and even threatened to resign if it continued to remain indifferent to his plight.

He mobilised his followers to take out a rally through Tirupati streets protesting against the `false case' and demanding the release of his brother, Ramakrishna.
