Powell calls Sinha on Indo-Pak. scene

By Our Diplomatic Correspondent

NEW DELHI NOV. 25. The External Affairs Minister, Yashwant Sinha, today told the U.S. Secretary of State, Colin Powell, that India hoped infiltration from Pakistan would stop. Gen. Powell had telephoned Mr. Sinha in the context of the "positive developments" between India and Pakistan.

Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs quoted Mr. Sinha as saying that India would have to deal with any violation of the Line of Control (LoC) by infiltrators.

Mr. Sinha informed Gen. Powell that India was happy to respond to the ceasefire announcement made by the Pakistani Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, on Sunday night.

The Minister noted that Pakistan had responded more favourably to the proposal to improve communication links between the two countries.
