NEW DELHI. NOV. 25. The Election Commission today said that public meetings and the display of election related material on the electronic media were prohibited 48 hours prior to the conclusion of the December 1 Assembly elections in the four States. This was to remind all those concerned — parties, candidates, the media and the general public — of the provisions under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act 1951.The Commission clarified that "the period of 48 hours during which the provisions shall be in force will commence from 1700 hours on November 29 and conclude on 1700 hours on December 1, 2003."
