Schalken, Robredo for Tata Open

CHENNAI NOV. 25. World No. 17 Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands and World No. 21 Tommy Robredo of Spain have confirmed participation in the Tata Open tennis championship at the SDAT-Nungambakkam Stadium from January 5 to 11, 2004.

Schalken, the No. 1 Dutchman, finished 2003 in the top 20 for the second year in a row with a personal best of 41 match wins. This year he captured two ATP titles — Costa do Sauipe (Prague) and `S-Hertogenbosch (the Netherlands).

Robredo, who joins Moya and Mantilla to form a formidable attack from Spain, finished a year-end best of 21 and won a career high of 38 matches despite not winning an ATP title in 2003. At the French Open, he defeated former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in five sets.
