Mr. Ramamohan Rao said: "May the catharsis, the essence of this festival, help to foster the spirit of universal brotherhood and cooperation and prosperity." Ms. Jayalalithaa expressed the hope that peace and equality would flourish. The spirit of brotherhood among the people of the world should grow further. The Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, S. Thirunavukkarasar, said universal brotherhood and communal harmony should be fostered and wished the people health and prosperity. The DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, said Prophet Mohammed's teachings on the need to foster brotherhood and equality should be borne in mind, particularly by youth. On the occasion, the people should take a vow to protect peace and democracy, said the TNCC president, G. K. Vasan. The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, the Congress Jananayaka Peravai general secretary, P. Chidambaram, the MDMK leader, Vaiko, and the Puthiya Tamizhagam founder-president, K. Krishnasamy, were among those who conveyed their greetings. The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. H. Jawahirullah, said people should pray that humanism spread, people should understand one another, sink their differences and eschew fundamentalism and terrorism. The Tamil Maanila Muslim League president, S. Sheikh Dawood, said people should follow in the footsteps of the Prophet. They should give up caste and communal feelings and live in unity. "Let us imbibe the essence of Prophet Mohammed's teachings of universal peace, brotherhood, tolerance and compassion and work for preserving unity in diversity and respect for all religions, which is the need of the hour for maintaining the culture of peace and non-violence in this strife-torn world," said the Chief Hereditary Trustee of Dargah Hazrath Syed Moosa Sha Khaderi (Anna Salai Dargah), Syed Moinuddin. The Jamaat-E-Islami Hind (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry) president, H. Abdur Raqeeb, said: "Even in this age of sophisticated warfare, the Quran stands for human welfare." The South India Isha-Athul Islam Society said Id prayers would be held opposite the War Memorial Hall here at 9 a.m.
