Rajasthan in dire straits

Jaipur Nov. 25 . Rajasthan was staring at defeat after being reduced to 53 for four against Karnataka on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group `B' match here on Tuesday.

Pankaj Gupta (11) and Anshu Jain (13) were at the crease in Rajasthan's second essay at close, which came 9.1 overs before schedule due to fading light. Karnataka made 145 before conceding a 23-run lead to Rajasthan in its first innings. Today, resuming at 129 for one, the visitors had reached 350 in their second innings with the help of fine knocks from Rowland Barrington (81), Vijay Bharadwaj (50) and Sunil Joshi (35), to set a victory target of 328 for the host.

Karantaka seamer Venkatesh Prasad and Dodda Ganesh grabbed two wickets each to leave the home team in turmoil. Rajasthan was still 274 behind with six wickets in hand.

Brief scores: Karnataka 145 & 350 (Rowland Barrington 81, Vijay Bharadwaj 50, Sunil Joshi (35) vs Rajasthan 168 & 53 for four. — PTI
