S. Selvam, Managing Director, said that about 200 people were visiting the centre every day to test the quality of the zari in the saris purchased by them. But the centre could test only a maximum of 100 saris a day. A nominal fee of Rs. 20 for a sari purchased from co-operative shops and Rs.30 for those bought in private shops was being charged. Mr. Selvam said the zari quality of about 1,200 saris was tested free of cost from October 31 to November 7 when the centre was established. The firm had stepped up the zari production from 5,000 marcs (each marc is 242 grams) to 7,500-8,000 marcs a month.
