Gogoi faces Biharis' ire

Tinsukia (Assam) Nov. 25. The Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, today faced the ire of Biharis when he visited the worst-affected Tinsukia district where 29 people of the community have so far been killed in the ongoing violence.

Mr. Gogoi visited relief camps in Tinsukia town, Duliajan and Doomdooma and met several delegations to assess the situation. Reports from the district said during his visit to the Doomdooma relief camp, the Biharis raised slogans against the Chief Minister and his alleged failure to protect the lives.

More than thousand Biharis followed his convoy continuing to shout slogans and later threw stones at some buses. The Biharis also stormed the Congress Bhavan and tried to ransack it but the securitymen prevented them, the reports said. Official sources said the situation was immediately brought under control. — PTI
