Id-ul-Fitr celebrated

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 25. Mass prayers, relief activities and feasting marked the Id-ul-Fitr celebrations, representing the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramzan in the city today.

Thousands of believers offered Id prayers at the Putharikkandam maidan and the mosques at Palayam, Manacaud, Kesavadasapuram, Beemapally and other places.

Inaugurating the Id friendship meeting organised by the C. H. Mohammed Koya Foundation, the Palayam Imam, P. K. Hamza Moulavi, said the celebration of Id offered an opportunity for fostering love in the name of truth and justice.

The Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, distributed Id handkerchiefs at the function. The Foundation chairman, A. S. Mujeeb Rahman, also attended.

Ramzan kits were distributed under the auspices of the United Muslim Organisation at the YMCA Hall. The president of the organisation, Kayikkara Babu, inaugurated the function organised in this connection.

The CPI leader, Pannyan Raveendran, inaugurated the meeting on religious harmony organised by Samskarika Kairali.
