Karnataka-Bangalore
By Our Staff Reporter
The General Secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Abdul Wahab, M.R. Sitaram, R.V. Devaraj, Dinesh Gundu Rao, and Salim Ahmed, MLAs, and the President of the Bangalore City District Congress Committee (BCDCC) and Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, met corporators at a meeting at the DCC office. Sources told The Hindu that a signature campaign was carried out in favour of one of the main aspirants, P.R. Ramesh. It is learnt that a majority of the corporators spoke in favour of Mr. Ramesh. Some, however, did not give any opinion, and said they would abide by the party High Command's decision. A group of corporators who supported Mr. Ramesh's candidature met the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, in the morning and urged him to nominate Mr. Ramesh. Meanwhile, supporters of the two other main aspirants Mumtaz Begum and M. Nagaraj said they were not satisfied with the method for eliciting the corporators' views. The opinion poll was conducted by the MLAs and Mr. Ramlinga Reddy. Although the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Kagodu Thimappa, was officially asked to conduct the poll, he could not attend the meeting. Sources said he was in Shimoga. Sources said the MLAs and Mr. Reddy would meet Mr. Krishna on Wednesday and discuss the mayoral polls. Although Mr. Ramesh's nomination had almost been finalised, a final decision was likely to be taken by Thursday morning, sources added.
