Coffee Day enters packaged business

Ruchita Prasad, Kannada film actress and Venu Madhav, Business Head, Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Co.Ltd (ABCTCL ) at the launch of " Coffee Day Perfect " in Chennai on Wednesday.

CHENNAI NOV. 26. Coffee Day FMCG, a division of Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Co. Ltd. (ABCTCL), has entered the packaged coffee business with the launch of `Coffee Day Perfect', a unique blend of filter coffee in Tamil Nadu. Addressing presspersons here today, A. Venu Madhav, Business Head, ABCTCL said the company had tied up with GlaxoSmithkline Consumer Healthcare Ltd. (GSKCH) for distribution of the new brand. The filter coffee made up of 57 per cent coffee and 43 per cent chicory, was specially developed and positioned for the mass market of filter coffee drinkers in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Venu Madhav said.

With this launch the company was truly represented in every segment of coffee products and services.

According to Prem Kumar, General Manager, New Business Development, GSKCH, the alliance between Coffee Day and GlaxoSmithKline was a strategic partnership that offered the opportunity to distribute and merchandise a premium product leveraging the company's distribution strength in Tamil Nadu.

The brand was launched by Ruchita Prasad, Southern film personality.

ABCTCL is a Rs. 250 crore, ISO 9002 certified company with over 5,000 acres of coffee estates in Karnataka, producing quality coffee beans for domestic and export markets.

According to V. Krishnan, General Manager (sales), ABCTCL, the company was exporting over 25,000 tonnes of green coffee annually. It has a large retail chain of 136 cafes across 33 cities and the plan was to open 200 cafes by March next. The filter coffee was a traditional daily drink in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu and over 600 brands of filter coffee were available in the southern states alone.
