Religious fervour marks Id-ul-fitr

By Our Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI. Nov. 26. Traditional zeal and religious fervour marked the celebration of Ramzan in the temple town of Tirupati. Muslims attired in their best were seen converging at the sprawling Idgah grounds situated on the Tirupati-Chittoor highway in a steady stream right from the morning.

After the prayers, they were seen greeting each other while children spent the day shopping.

With election in the offing, political leaders, especially those belonging to the Congress and the TDP, vied with each other in thronging the Idgah grounds in time to extend greetings to the Muslim brethren with the conventional hug and exchange of pleasantries. Among those who attended the Namaz at the Idgah were the District Minister, B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, the local MLA, Chadalavada Krishnamurthy, the municipal chairperson, K. Sankar Reddy, the chairperson of the TUDA, N.V. Prasad -- all belonging to the TDP, and the Congress town party chief, M. Venkatramana, with scores of their close followers.
