Laxman claims title

Chennai Nov. 26. R.R. Laxman of Tamil Nadu drew the final round against M.B. Muralidharan (Kerala) to win the Kanchi District FIDE-rated chess tournament that concluded at the Guru Nanak College, here, on Tuesday. Laxman clinched the title on a better progressive score after tying with R. Balasubramanian (ICF) and Muralidharan, who all had 7.5 points each.

Dakshinamurthy, Retd. Railways employee, and N. Karuppaiah, vice president, Tamil Nadu Chess Association, gave away the prizes.

Final standings: 1 to 3: Laxman (7.5, progressive score 40.5), Muralidharan (7.5, 39.5), Balasubramanian (7.5, 37.5); 4-8: Anil Kumar, Girinath, Dinesh Kumar, Sethuraman, Venkatakrishnan (7 points each); 9-14: Venkataramana, Vinoth Kumar, Sankar, Saravanakumar, Venprakash, Shyam Sundar, (6.5 points); 15-25: Sandeep, Premnath, Gopalakrishnan, Kavitha, Venkatsundaram, Saravanakrishnan, Noohu, Devendra Kumar, Krithika, Senthil Kumar, Gopikrishna, Viswanath Sandilya, Santhanam, Nishanth, Narayanan, Prasad, Eugene, Chetanmithra, Adhiban (6 points).
