Hyderabad gets a reprieve

Guwahati Nov. 26 . The Assam-Hyderabad Elite Ranji Trophy cricket match from Group B ended in a tame draw at Maligaon Railway Stadium here today with neither side garnering any point.

On the concluding day, Hyderabad — replying to host's mammoth first innings total of 537 for nine declared — scored 410 for nine when the curtain came down on the four-day match.

Assam players are to blame themselves for not being able to earn two points by taking the first innings lead as they floored as many as six catches offered by Arjun Yadav and Ibrahim Khalil — the two Hyderabad batsmen who denied the home side from taking first innings lead.

Arjun and Ibrahim emerged as the most successful among visiting batsmen scoring 91 and 89 respectively, which helped their side to cross four hundred mark.

But their deeds could not reap any benefit for Hyderabad as well since according to latest Ranji rule no team would get any point unless both the teams complete at least one innings each.

Brief scores: 537 for nine decl. drew with Hyderabad 410 for nine (Aniruddha Singh 68, Vinay Kumar 53, Arjun Yadav 91, Ibrahim Khalil 89; Arlen Konwar six for 141). — UNI
