Resuming at 323 for eight, Punjab batsmen could add just 11 runs before being bowled out for 334 in its first innings replying to Baroda's 369. Medium pacer Rakesh Patel was the wrecker-in-chief for the host, claiming five wickets. In its second essay, Baroda made 247 runs losing six wickets before play was called off after eight mandatory overs. Shatrunjay Gaekwad, son of the former India player, coach and selector Anshuman Gaekwad, made a brilliant 72. Rishikesh Parab, who scored 56, ably supported him.
