Buildings Congress session

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore Nov. 26. The Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) will hold its mid-term session with a seminar on "Information technology in built environments" at the MEG and Centre here on Friday. The Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Bandaru Dattatreya, who is patron of the IBC, the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, and the Minister for Public Works, N. Dharam Singh, are scheduled to address the afternoon session. N.G. Gowdaiah, Executive Engineer of Buildings Divisions, PWD, told presspersons that the discussions would centre on public and private buildings and bridges. Although information technology had played an important role in the construction industry, there was no uniform software to help in design and construction activities. Answering a question, he said today's concrete structures including flyovers in cities were designed to last for 100 years with regular maintenance.
