Shiv Sena promises to deport Bangladeshis

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI NOV. 26 . The Shiv Sena, a key coalition partner of the Vajpayee Government at the Centre, has in its election manifesto for the Delhi Assembly elections promised to deport all Bangladeshi migrants from the Capital besides slapping a blanket ban on cow slaughter in the city. The party is contesting 27 of the 70 Assembly seats. The manifesto, which was released here today by the leader of its Parliamentary Party, Chandrakant Khaire, along with his Delhi unit chief, Jai Bhagwan Goel, also promises to make Delhi a "safe city'' for women besides adopting the Mumbai model for slum-relocation in the Capital.

Mr. Khaire said his party decided to go it alone in the Capital after the BJP refused to allot them at least two desired seats. "They were giving us two seats where the Muslim population was more than 70 per cent,'' he said.

Mr. Khaire claimed his party would emerge as the third alternative to the Congress and the BJP in Delhi. "Our nominees are getting excellent response from the people of the area as they are fed up with both the parties,'' he said.

Mr. Goel added: "Besides opening our account, we plan to garner at least 6 per cent of the total votes polled so that we get the status of a State party here.''
