Jamali hopes to meet Vajpayee

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD NOV. 26. The Pakistan Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, has expressed the hope that the latest confidence building measures between India and Pakistan, including the ceasefire declared on Tuesday, will pave the way for a one-to-one meeting between him and the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on the sidelines of the SAARC summit scheduled here for the first week of January.

At a function to mark Id, Mr. Jamali described the Indo-Pak. decision to observe ceasefire across the LoC as an Id gift for the people of both countries. The ceasefire could create a peaceful environment for settling the differences with India on Kashmir and other issues.

Asked whether there was any possibility of a one-to-one meeting between him and Mr. Vajpayee at the SAARC summit, Mr. Jamali said, "I think he will be coming for the SAARC conference. I cannot rule out the meeting. We will extend full protocol to him. Hope there will be some reciprocity too."
