TIRUPATI Nov. 27. The Congress MLA representing Chittoor in the dissolved Assembly, C.K. Babu (Jayachandra Reddy), denied the charge that he had murdered the engineering student, Ravisankar Chowdary, and accused the police of framing him at the instance of his detractors. He addressed his followers at Murukambabattu village outside Chittoor municipality limits from atop a van, apparently to circumvent the restriction by the AP High Court while granting him conditional bail, preventing him from entering Chittoor municipal limits and the last minute imposition of Section 30 of the Police Act which prohibits public meetings, rallies and processions. Mr. Babu accused the police of wanting to kill him in a fake encounter during his remand in Cuddapah jail. He said his wife and children were not allowed to see him even when he was sick. He was also critical of the media and officials for being `highly biased' against him subjecting him to a lot of mental torture in the last six months.
In Tirupati
Mr. Babu earlier flew into Tirupati from Hyderabad enroute to Chittoor, where he was given a warm welcome by his followers both at the airport and at Ambedkar statue where he halted to offer floral tributes to the leader. Section 30 of the Police Act was imposed in Tirupati too, preventing Mr. Babu from addressing a full-scale public meeting. He, however, briefly addressed the gathering of followers.
