A KPCL note said BHEL had agreed to make efforts to complete the Rs. 2100-crore project in 34 to 36 months instead of 36 to 39 months as mentioned in its bid. KPCL had put in a Rs. 20-crore bonus clause for BHEL if it completed the project two months ahead of schedule. The noted added that BHEL had agreed to do so "in view of the severe power shortage in the State". At the meeting, the Managing Director of KPCL, K. Jothiramalingam, emphasised the need to make the 500 MW BTPS a "model project" by adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety. KPCL and BHEL had earlier achieved many benchmarks for the 210 MW units at Raichur Thermal Power Station, the note said.
