Andhra Pradesh
By Our Special Correspondent
Another development in the camp was the kickstarting of his campaign by the Pradesh Congress Committee's official spokesperson, G. Muddukrishnama Naidu, for his Puttur seat in the district. He exhorted Mr. Chandrababu Naidu to stop his "cheap remarks" that the Congress was colluding with the naxalites, and wondered, if so, why Mr. Chandrababu Naidu had not appointed a full-fledged judicial inquiry into the naxal attack at Alipiri. "After all he is in power and let him appoint a judicial probe. Let the whole things come out," Mr. Muddukrishnama Naidu said. In the case of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu's brother, decks are almost cleared for his entry into the Congress. The relations between the brothers appeared to have improved after the Alipiri blast. But it was only temporary. Mr. Ramamurthy, is believed to have already taken the bait. Two top Congress leaders, including a former Chief Minister, were keen on seeing and other disgruntled ex-TDP members join their party. Sources close to Mr. Ramamurthy say that that it is only a matter of time before he took the decision. He is likely to announce it at a press conference here in three to four days. He is also said to be angling either for the Tirupati or the Srikalahasti seat. Mr. Muddukrishnama Naidu launching his campaign in the district today virtually breathed fire at Mr. Chandrababu Naidu, setting at rest the rumours that he might go back to the TDP. He lashed at the Chief Minister for crying wolf over the naxal attack on him having "consigned to the dust bin" the inquiry report on the former Home Minister, Madhava Reddy's death in a naxal attack. He "catalogued" Mr. Chandrababu Naidu's failures and his inept handling of the core sectors such as power, irrigation and finance which he alleged pushed the State into the present state of morass and called for dumping of his Government forthwith to prevent the State's total collapse before long.
