Jayalalithaa, CM meeting turns into big media event

By Our Special Correspondent

Hyderabad Nov. 28. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa's meeting with her Andhra Pradesh counterpart, N. Chandrababu Naidu, at the Secretariat today turned out to be a big media event curiously witnessed by scores of employees.

At least two scores of scribes and lensmen descended on the scene an hour before the expected arrival of the VIP from Tamil Nadu. For sometime, the jostling and pushing for vantage point at the entrance of the "C" block housing the Chief Minister's office continued until a convoy van equipped with stands on which the cameramen could place themselves arrived.

However, a second hitch followed, this time in the form of the police, who raised a temporary rope-barricade. A heavy contingent took over the entry point, pushing the scribes beyond the stop-line and often blurring the view for the cameras.

Unprecedented security arrangements were made in the premises with checking taking place at several points over the stretch from the outer maingate to the "C" block. Ms Jayalalithaa arrived exactly on time at 3 pm, in a bulletproof Parejo. Restrctions for mediamen increased with Commandos and the Tamil Nadu police taking over charge from the local police. Ms Jayalalithaa, emerged out of the limousine amid the popping of flashbulbs and was received by the Ministers for Major Irrigation and Finance, K. Srihari and Y. Ramakrishnudu.

This was Ms Jayalalithaa's second visit to the Secretariat and on both occasions the issue was the Telugu Ganga project. According to officials who were present at today's meeting, Ms Jayalalithaa deliberated on the issue with Mr Naidu in chaste Telugu.
