According to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Rajouri-Poonch), S.M. Sahai, around 10 p.m. on Thursday troops manning the LoC spotted three persons trying to cross over from the Khari area of Poonch into Bagh tehsil of PoK. When challenged, two of them opened fire at the security forces who returned the fire. The ensuing encounter ended early today with the death of the three who have been identified as Pancher Ali, district commander of the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's Pir Panjal Regiment, Saiffullah, and their guide, Mir Hussain. While the first two hailed from PoK, Hussain was a resident of Panch area near Poonch town. Two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, four hand grenades, a wireless set, a tape recorder, five batteries, six cassettes, two pouches and two film rolls were recovered from them. Meanwhile, in the Gool area of Udhampur district a militant was killed by Border Security Force troops today. Militants also attacked the house of Raj Kumar, a village defence committee member at Gundi in the Gool area. A Dak Bungalow of the State Public Works Department was set ablaze at Bunjwah village in Kishtwar area of Doda district.
