The mandatory registration of employers and workers, providing job security, creating employment opportunity, regularising wages, implementing ESI, PF, and pension schemes and providing relief amount during lean season were among the demands.
Cashew workers take out rally
Members of the Tamil Nadu Cashew nut Workers Union, affiliated to the CITU, staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here, demanding enhanced wages and revising the Minimum Wages Act. They said nearly one lakh workers, who toil hard to make a living while working in cashewnut industries in Kanyakumari district, were paid meagre wages. Further, cashew nut industrialists did not evince interest in revising wages or providing benefits to their workers even one year after the lapse of the previous wage accord arrived at by employers and worker unions, the members said.
