New TV channel for the kids

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD NOV. 29 . A new television channel aiming to provide a complete multi-genre entertainment package for kids, Pogo channel, will be launched in the country from January 1.

The channel from the Turner International India Pvt. Ltd., will be part of the Zee-Turner bouquet, apart from Cartoon Network.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Friday, the Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Turner Entertainment Networks Asia, Inc., Ian Diamond, said Pogo would go beyond animation to a kids' live action channel.

Extensive research was conducted before planning this children-specific multi-genre programming. It would strike a healthy balance between good quality entertainment and a safe environment that would encourage learning for the young viewers, he said.

Since the Cartoon Network launch in India eight years ago, a lot of research had gone into the preferences of children, as television had became an integral part of their lives. An effort was made to select the content that was educative and entertaining.

The channel would have three sections — Young kids, Kids prime and Family — and special events for all and family viewing. In the absence of programmes devoted to children, apart from the Cartoon Network, children have been watching programmes meant for adults and the children-centric Pogo would fulfil the long-felt need, said the Managing Director, Anshuman Misra, and Research Director, Pradeep Hejmadi, of Turner International India.

The channel will bring internationally-acclaimed shows for the young, award-winning drama, comedy and variety shows for older kids and popular movies, and documentaries for the family. The Telugu version of the channel would be launched from February 1, they added.
