The service was inaugurated with a video conferencing between Arun Shourie, Union Minister for Information Technology, Communication and Disinvestment in New Delhi and Vivek Harinarain, IT Secretary of Tamil Nadu, in Chennai. Addressing a press conference here today, R. Ramraj, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sify, said it would be available widely at affordable prices. The service was enabled over Sify's Tier 1 backbone infrastructure and the broadband connectivity of the iWay chain. The video-conferencing facility could be booked, once the calling parties decide to meet, at a convenient iWay each day. The video-conference could then be initiated at the appointed time for a face to face discussion. Mr. Ramraj said at Rs. 5 a minute for both participants, this service was available at over 100 iWays across 24 cities and would be scaled up to 350 iWays in 40 cities in the near future.
