Reply to proposals to be sent tomorrow

By V.S. Sambandan

COLOMBO Nov. 29. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister's Office on Friday said a reply to the proposals by the President, Chandrika Kumaratunga, for a Joint Peace Council, would be sent by Monday.

Denying reports that the President's offer has been rejected, a senior aide to the premier said: "we will have to respond to it'' and that a reply would be sent to the President.

Ms. Kumaratunga's proposal which includes creating the post of a Minister assisting Defence, comes at a time when a Committee of Officials, co-chaired by the Secretaries to the President and the Prime Minister, is chalking out details of how the two leaders could work together on important national issues.
