Two arrested for boy's murder

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Nov. 29. The Inspector General of Police, U.K. Katna, said here today that two persons were arrested on Friday for "murder" of a 19-year old P. Tamizhmani at Kaleetheerthalkuppamin 1998.

The accused took the boy to a nearby sugarcane field after consuming liquor and assaulted him on the head, causing his instant death. The accused buried the body on the sugarcane field.

Mr. Katna said the victim's mother received a couple of letters purportedly written by the boy stating that he had fled the village with a girl. But the letters were written by the accused to convince the mother that Tamizhmani was safe.

The police who were on a visit to the village a few days ago in connection with an investigation of another case came to know that Tamizhmani was murdered some five years ago and that the criminals were at large.

The police then intensified the investigation and arrested the two.

A team of police officers along with an executive magistrate exhumed the body today .The "remnants" of the body would be sent for forensic examination, the IG said.
