By Our Staff Correspondent
This was disclosed to presspersons by the Principal Secretary, (Transport), B.L. Sridhar, here today. He said that such tracks were already functional in places such as Hubli-Dharwad, Kolar, Hospet, and Hassan. Other places, including Mysore, would get such tracks in the near future. He said that the main objective of such tracks was to ascertain the driving proficiency and knowledge of traffic rules of those applying for a driver's licence. Though the formation of driving tracks was initiated in Kolar in 1995, the formation of tracks in the jurisdiction of other Regional Transport Offices would be speeded up. In order to properly check the fitness of vehicles brought to the Regional Transport Offices for fitness certificate, ramps were being constructed on the premises of Regional Transport Offices. The ramps would assist the officials in ascertaining the roadworthiness of the vehicles. Among other measures initiated by the Transport Department, Mr. Sridhar said the focus was on proactive steps in administration, upgrading technology, and people-friendly initiatives. They included issuance of application forms for learner's licence online. Though the facility had been made available only in Bangalore, forms could be downloaded from the department's website.
