With two wins in three matches, Calicut finished runner-up. Bharathiyar won all its three matches in the league. Earlier, Madras, the defending champion, finished third, beating Bangalore 78-42. Bharathiyar, Calicut, Madras and Bangalore have qualified for the All-India championship, to be held Haridwar. This morning Bharathiyar and Calicut recorded their second victories in the four-team summit league. While Calicut led from start to finish against Bangalore, Bharathiyar rallied strongly to wipe out the first quarter deficit (8-17) before winning the tie by seven points. Earlier, Madras led from start to finish against Bangalore with its steady shooting. At half-time, it led 32-16. Madras controlled the rebounds also well. Bangalore's shooting was wayward under pressure. S. Karunanidhi, Registrar-in-charge, Madras University, gave away the prizes. The results: Summit league: Bharathiyar 60 (Aravind 19, S. Padmanabhan 12, V. Shankar 10) beat Calicut 50 (Kiran Abic 18, C.V. Ratheesh 14, R. Manoj 11); Madras 78 (S.L. Charles 20, Amarnath Gopi 15) beat Bangalore 42 (Sairam Kumar 20, B. Harish 10); Bharathiyar 53 (Sivaprakash 10, Shyam 10, Padmanabhan 10) beat Madras 46; Calicut 65 (R. Manoj 12, Rony Zachariah 22, Kiran 19, Ratheesh 15) beat Bangalore 50 (Sanatram Shetty 20).
