Monsoon vigorous over Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI NOV. 30. Northeast monsoon has been vigorous over Tamil Nadu and active over Kerala.

Rainfall occurred at most places over Tamil Nadu and at many places over Kerala and Lakshadweep. Isolated rainfall occurred over south Interior Karnataka. Dry weather prevailed over Andhra Pradesh, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.

The following stations recorded very heavy to heavy rainfall in cms: Pondicherry Airport 17, Needamangalam (Thiruvarur dt.) 14, Aranthangi (Pudukottai dt.) 12, Cuddalore, Kumbakonam (Thanjavur dt.) and Minicoy 11 each, Karaikal, Thiruvaiyaru (Thanjavur dt.), Thirukoilur (Villupuram dt.) and Kodavasal (Thiruvarur dt.) 9 each, Nagapattinam and Ambasamudram (Thirunelveli dt.) 8 each and Thanjavur, Nannilam (Thiruvarur dt.) and Cheranmadevi (Thirunelveli dt.) 7 each.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cms: Thiruvarur, Coonoor and Thiruchirapalli Airport 6 each, Mannargudi (Thiruvarur dt.), Thammampatti (Salem dt.), Perambalur, Pullambadi (Thiruchirapalli dt.), Thiruchirapalli and Dindigul 5 each.

FORECAST (Valid until Tuesday morning): Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at places over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and at a few places over Interior Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over South Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Coastal and North Interior Karnataka.

Isolated heavy rain is likely to occur over Coastal Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry during next 48 hours.
