Briefing reporters after a meeting of the TDPP presided over by the party president and Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, here on Sunday, the party spokesman, C. Ramachandraiah, said the delegation would submit a memorandum to the Commission highlighting the problems the State Government would face if the polls were delayed. The TDPP would try to impress on the panel that since the draft publication of the revised electoral rolls was fixed for January 21, the elections could be held immediately after the expiry of the mandatory 45-day period from the date of publication. The meeting also discussed the issue of Central security forces to the State for election duty and the likely figuring of the multi-crore stamp paper scandal in the winter session of Parliament next month. He said it was decided at the meeting that the party would raise the question of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament if it did not come up in the coming session. The party was committed to 33 per cent political reservation for women. The TDPP would take up with the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the issue of Central assistance to the State to meet the drought situation. The State Government had requested the Centre to hold over the release of one lakh tonnes of rice, which was sanctioned, and had been trying for increased relief. The TDPP would seek 15 lakh tonnes and Rs. 996 crores in its meeting with Mr. Vajpayee and would make efforts for convening a meeting of the Task Force to expedite the release of the package. The TDP MPs were asked to monitor the rice procurement policy of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) with 75 per cent levy. The meeting condoled the death of Union Minister, Murasoli Maran.
