Chargesheet served in Taj Corridor scam case

Lucknow Nov. 30 . The Uttar Pradesh Government has served a chargesheet on four suspended senior bureaucrats whom the CBI had named in the Rs. 175-crore Taj Heritage Corridor scam.

Official sources confirmed that the charge sheet had been served on the former Chief Secretary, D.S. Bagga, the then Chief Minister Mayawati's former Principal Secretary, P.L. Punia, the former Secretary (Environment), V.K. Gupta, and the former Principal Secretary (Environment), R.K. Sharma — last night. The officers have been given three weeks' time to respond to the chargesheet.

Mr. Sharma had earlier been issued a charge sheet. "This is a revised charge sheet," a senior Government official told UNI.

While Mr. Bagga, Mr. Punia and Mr. Gupta were placed under suspension on September 25 last after the CBI submitted a self-contained note to the State Government, Mr. Sharma was placed under suspension even while Ms. Mayawati was at the helm of affairs on July 2 last.

After placing the officials under suspension, the State Government had constituted a committee comprising the retired IAS officer, Hamendra Kumar, and the UPSRTC Chairman, V.K. Mittal, to conduct a departmental inquiry.

The committee has to submit its report by January 18 next year.
