This is the fourth time that he is grilled. The SIT had found him to be "sullied" in its earlier questioning, leading to his departure from the prestigious post and the institution of a departmental action against him. The Bombay High Court-empowered SIT had told the Division Bench last Thursday that it intended to interrogate Mr. Sharma and others over new facts that have emerged from examination of two CDs containing telephonic conversations between the prime accused, Abdul Telgi, and others. The SIT has received 16 such CDs from the Karnataka Police. Neither Mr. Sharma nor the SIT had anything to say about today's questioning. The SIT wanted to interrogate him yesterday but Mr. Sharma excused himself citing personal reasons. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Government has suspended the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ramakant Padwal, who is also retiring today. The ACP allegedly allowed Telgi to stay in his posh apartment, when the accused was supposed to be in police custody. Earlier, the SIT had sent a questionnaire to Mr. Padwal and also the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pradeep Sawant. Their replies were found to be unsatisfactory. Mr. Sawant was sent to Pune for further investigation. The SIT has already arrested the Joint Commissioner, Sridhar Wagal, Inspector Dattatreya Dal and the Assistant Police Inspector, Dileep Kamat, in this connection.
