BPCL records win

CHENNAI NOV. 30. Defending champion Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited posted a 3-2 win over debuntant Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) in the women's team event of the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board inter-unit table tennis championship, which commenced at the Montfort Indoor Stadium, Santhome HSS, here on Sunday. In another round robin women's match, last year's runner-up Oil India pipped Indian Oil Corporation 3-2.

BPCL's Poulami Ghatak and India No.1 came to the team's rescue winning the crucial fifth rubber against Mousami Paul (ONGC) 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2. In the other match which also went to the distance, Nandita Saha (OIL India) edged out T. Pradeepa 11-9, 11-2, 10-12, 10-12, 11-5, India No.5 to clinch the match in her team's favour in the final tie.

Bhuvaneswari lost to Mousami Paul 5-11, 13-11, 9-11, 11-7, 5-11; Susmita Roy bt Anjana Bora 11-3, 11-6, 11-3; Bhuvaneswari lost to Vishaka Vijay 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 12-14; Poulomi Ghatak bt Mousami Paul 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2); OIL India bt IOC 3-2 (Nandita Saha lost to N.R. Indu 11-6, 1-11, 11-2, 7-11, 11-13; Mouma Das bt T. Pradeepa 11-7, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6; Montu Ghosh lost to Kasturi Chakraborthy 5-11, 11-3, 6-11, 7-11; Mouma Das bt N.R.
