NCP complains against Jogi

By Our Staff Correspondent

RAIPUR NOV. 30. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from Marwahi, Hemwant Porte, has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi, accusing him of printing and distributing pamphlets about her purported resignation from the contest in support of the Congress. The Election Commission has confirmed that it has received the complaint.

While the pamphlets of Ms. Porte's `resignation' were distributed on Saturday, posters casting aspersions on her character could be seen in Marwahi today.

Ms. Porte, who was chairperson of the State Women's Commission, has named Mr. Jogi in her complaint while the NCP has demanded postponing of polling in Marwahi by two days in the wake of the development. According to the NCP spokesperson here, when Ms. Porte went to lodge an FIR at the local police station in Marwahi, they refused to register her complaint following which she informed the Chief Electoral Officer here who directed the Inspector-General of Bilaspur to register the case.

Ms. Porte wanted to contest from Marwahi on the Congress ticket since her husband had been an MLA twice from here but her request was refused following which she joined the NCP. Her presence in Marwahi is expected to cut into the Congress votes.
