Prof. Krishnamurthy was delivering the valedictory address of "Sahitya Sinchana", a lecture series, at Vidyavahini Samsthe here. The Kannada Sahitya Parishat has organised the series for 30 days in 30 reputed institutions as part of Kannada Rajyotsava. Prof. Krishnamurthy said the value of Indian degrees was declining and it was high time Indian universities reformed the system of education. There were imbalances in the system and the gap between students from urban areas and rural areas was widening. The advent of computers had eroded the country's basic culture and values. Parents were mounting pressure on their wards to achieve proficiency in computer science, Prof. Krishnamurthy said. Regretting that pure science was taught without attempting to develop a scientific temper and attitude among children, Prof. Krishnamurthy said. Biligere Krishnamurthy and K.S. Siddalingappa, writers, and S. Kumaraswamy and Thippeswamy, principals of colleges run by the samsthe, D.N.Yogeesh, President, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, and K.B. Jayanna, director of the samsthe, spoke. Akkamma and troupe rendered songs in praise of Kannada language.
