The terrorists, in civilian clothes, infiltrated from Sialkot district of Pakistan through the International Border into Ganjansoo area of Jammu district and took away a scooter from a border resident in the wee hours today. The terrorists then attacked a police post at Ponichak. When the police personnel returned fire, the terrorists sped away but collided with a load carrier. The injured terrorists hijacked the load carrier at gunpoint and asked the driver to take them to the Jammu railway station. The driver took them to the Sidhra forest. On seeing the security vehicle of the IAS officer, K.B. Pillai, who is the Director-General of the Institute of Management and Public Administration, the terrorists opened fire. The officer was hit on the shoulder while two of his security personnel were also injured. The terrorists fired at a bus carrying CRPF personnel of the 120 Battalion and escaped into the forest. Army and police reinforcements were rushed to the scene. A dog squad was pressed into action. A constable, identified as Surinder Singh, was killed when a terrorist opened fire. A sniffer dog was also killed in the attack. The body of the constable has not been retrieved so far as the standoff was continuing. A personal guard of the DIG (Jammu-Kathua), Farooq Ahmed, was injured in the attack. The Army took over command in the afternoon and began combing operations in the dense bushes.
