Seven held for forging documents

CHENNAI NOV. 30. The Central Crime Branch police today arrested seven persons for allegedly forging documents to get housing loans from a multinational bank.

The police said the bank sanctioned them loans amounting to Rs. 1.98 crores after they surrendered land documents.

The forgery came to light after a bank panel verified the documents. Following this, the bank officials lodged a police complaint.

The arrested were N. K. Kumar, K. Malini, K. Murugan, S. Radha, Pradeep Jain, Saroj Jain and Mohammed Atlaf.

Hacked to death

A meat vendor was hacked to death by a gang at Kakkan Nagar in Adambakkam this morning. The police said the gang attacked Selvam (40), killing him on the spot. They suspect previous enmity behind the murder.

Fatally hit by lorry

A worker died on Saturday after a lorry transporting granite hit him at a stone-crushing unit at Tirusoolam. The Pallavaram police said V. Kathirvelu (44) was breaking stones in the quarry when the incident occurred. He died on way to hospital.

J. Radhakrishnan (54), a cyclist, was killed when a Chennai Corporation lorry knocked him down on Old Mahabalipuram Road at Thoraipakkam. The lorry driver was arrested.
