By Our Staff Reporter

Bangalore Nov. 30. There is a proposal by the Government to construct art complexes in various parts of the city to promote theatre, dance, music, and paintings, the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, B.K. Chandrashekhar, said here on Sunday.

Speaking at the valedictory of the seventh Karnataka Kala Mela, Prof. Chandrashekhar said these complexes could be built in a simple, aesthetic, and cost-effective manner. He said he would hold a meeting with the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, next week after which a decision would be taken in this regard.

The Government proposed to identify plots in and around eight layouts in the city where these complexes would be constructed, he said. The Government was taking steps to introduce yoga, music, and theatre as part of the curriculum in schools and around 13,000 teachers had been identified for this purpose.

Lakkappagowda, Vice-Chancellor, Kannada University, Hampi, said that Kala Mela should be an annual affair and should be supported by Kannada and Culture Department.

S.G. Vasudev and J.S. Khanderao, artists, were presented awards. Artist R.M. Hadapad, who died recently, was awarded posthumously and his award was received by his wife, Sharada Hadapad.
