Army JCOs to enjoy more privileges

By Our Staff Reporter

Bangalore Nov. 30 . For an establishment that is demarcated by strict hierarchy, where privilege goes with rank, the Indian Army has made an unprecedented move in providing its Junior Commission Officers (JCOs) with entertainment facilities, usually made available only to Army officers.

Golden Palm JCO/OR Institute, which will be maintained by the Pioneer Corps Training Centre (PCTC), will serve as an interaction and entertainment venue for JCOs and Army personnel below their ranks and their families.

The facilities, located near the ASC Centre on Agaram Road, include a family health centre, multipurpose hall, bar, cafeteria, CSD Canteen, computer centre, indoor stadium, crèche, jogging track, outdoor play area, and gardens. Inaugurating the institute, Lieutenant General G.S. Sihota, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, commended the project. "There should be no difference between the living standards of officers and jawans and these facilities will ensure that the living standards of all Army personnel, together with their families, will improve. Our soldiers, no less than our officers, deserve good facilities that they can enjoy in peace time after serving their nation on the field," he said.

All Army stations under Southern Command have made an effort to improve their facilities over the last two and a half years but the Golden Palm <129>Institute is the first to offer <243>such extensive leisure and <129>family care facilities under one roof.
