dated December 2, 1953: Progressively National Navy

The annual Senior Naval Officers Conference started its 3-day session here at Naval headquarters in New Delhi on the 30th November. Presided over by Vice-Admiral Sir Mark Pizey, Commander-in-Chief, it considered important policy questions. The Vice-Admiral expressed satisfaction at the way the service was gradually achieving self-sufficiency in training its officers and men. He hoped it would not be long before the Indian Navy would be completely self-sufficient, except in a few highly specialised areas. Progress in Indianisation had been quite rapid, and would become even quicker in 1954, with a number of senior appointments going to Indians.
