Letters to the Editor
Sir, I refer to the editorial, "Waiting game in Kerala" (Dec. 1). The political crisis in the State seems to have blown over, at least for the time being. But for the depletion in the strength of MLAs in the Karunakaran camp and the refusal of the UDF partners to upset the apple cart, we might have had to endure a prolonged period of political uncertainty. Ideological differences or policy disputes were not involved in the tug-of-war, only clashes of personalities and interests were behind it. The Left's role in the now-aborted toppling game does it no credit. G. David Milton, Maruthancode, T.N. * * * Sir, The description of the LDF's stand as "principled" in the editorial is not correct. The Left damaged its image by endorsing Mr. Karunakaran's scheme openly, even if it might pretend that its real plan was to weaken the Congress by splitting it. P.P. Sudhakaran, Bangalore * * * Sir, The factional feud in the Congress in Kerala is nothing but a power struggle. If the high command does not initiate stern action against those indulging in anti-party activities, the Congress will soon lose its image. N. Venkatesan, Kyoto, Japan
