AIDS day

Sir, — I refer to the report "Slum women show the way to fight AIDS stigma" (Dec. 1). AIDS awareness campaigns should focus on removing the belief that it is transmitted only through illicit sexual contact.

We cannot help people like Malar as far as the physical pain is concerned, but we can at least help them get rid of the mental torture and stigma.
