The petition, filed by Ajay K. Agarwal, advocate, has been listed before a Bench headed by the Chief Justice, V.N. Khare. Pointing out that national security was at stake, the petitioner said that original dyes and machines had been used for printing the stamp paper and thousands of persons across several States were involved in the racket. A number of police officials, including senior officers, were found to be involved and senior leaders of different political parties, Ministers, MLAs and others had come under a cloud. Though the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, had stated that the Centre was ready for a CBI inquiry, Maharashtra and Karnataka were not making the necessary request as "political bigwigs" were allegedly involved in the scandal, the petitioner said. The petitioner said that the fake stamp papers were sold in the market through the distribution agents of the prime accused, Abdul Karim Telgi, and the racket had the connivance of officials from the Nasik Security Press. He prayed for a CBI probe into the scam .
