dated December 3, 1953: 1960 Olympic Games in the U.S.A.

A meeting of the United States Olympic Association held considered which American city should formally bid to become the venue for the 1960 games. The meeting was convened following a statement by Mr. Avery Brundage, that under a new law each country was permitted only one applicant. Seven American cities had expressed interest in staging the 1960 Olympics: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Los Angeles and San Francisco, but no decision was announced as to which would bid to gain the honour.
