Letters to the Editor
Sir, The arrest of the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, R.S. Sharma, has shaken the confidence of the people at large in the law-enforcing agency. It can only be restored by an impartial trial. Syed Sultan Mohiddin, Cuddapah, A.P. * * * Sir, The arrest of Mr. Sharma reinforces the people's faith in the judicial system. Shubhdarshani Mitra, New Delhi * * * Sir, The stamp paper scam case, if handled with the seriousness it deserves, can lead to the doors of the high priests of corruption. No one involved in the scam, high or low, meek or mighty, deserves sympathy and must be given the punishment due. Kanwar Pal Singh Chauhan, Chandigarh * * * Sir, The media whip up a frenzy whenever a scandal breaks. The last two decades have seen the unearthing of more scams than one can remember. Has any of these led to the conviction of any top politician? Till such time as law and order enforcement is entrusted to a truly independent institution there is very little prospect of the rule of law getting established. Ravee Nerur, Bangalore
