Patna police claim Telgi had Bihar links

By K. Balchand

PATNA Dec. 2 . The Patna police claim to have established that the prime accused in the multi-billion fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Karim Telgi, had links in Bihar and that he operated one of his nine printing machines in the State capital not too long ago.

The police said Telgi operated the machine for about four years and printed fake non-judicial stamp paper amounting to several crores and supplied them to other parts of the State and various cities.

Telgi was alleged to have shifted the printing machine to Kolkata and operated his nefarious business from there.

Police have arrested eight persons in connection with the scam and recovered fake stamp papers and foreign currencies worth several crores. One of the arrested admitted acquaintance with the kingpin.

The revenue loss to the State is estimated at several hundred crores, much higher than an initial official assessment.
