The sniffer, an eight-year-old Labrador, had done its best and lost its life pouncing on two terrorists hiding in the jungle. Top brass of the police, present at the burial ceremony, paid warm tributes to their comrade, who helped them eliminate the terrorist duo, thereby averting a possible mayhem. "The loss of Hero is not less than the loss of a brave jawan," said the Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime, H.L. Fotedar. The Director-General of Police, Gopal Sharma, ordered a memorial to be built for "Kiran Hero" at the Railway Station where he was buried. On Sunday morning, the terrorists had attacked a senior IAS officer, K.B. Pillai, and fled to the forests after engaging the Army and police personnel in a gun-battle. The security personnel had a difficult time trying to locate them till Hero entered the thickets. The terrorists were killed after a heavy exchange of fire.
