Speaking to The Hindu, the Leader of the Opposition, Pankaj Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress, said that his party along with the Congress would "co-operate with each other'' during the current winter session of the Assembly in their opposition to the Government for its failures on various issues, including health, education and law and order. Earlier, the Trinamool Congress MLAs staged a walk-out in the Assembly protesting against the Speaker's refusal to allow a discussion on last month's killing of 19 persons in the Dalgaon tea estate in Jalpaiguri district. The Congress MLAs joined the protest, but did not participate in the walk-out. The party's MLAs later returned to the House to participate in discussions. According to Mr. Banerjee, "the Speaker did not allow discussions on the matter in order to protect the State Government from any embarrassment and save it from our charges. He nullified our call for an adjournment motion to discuss the Dalgaon incident...''
